Much of my enthusiasm and drive for art is down to sharing invaluable time with artists, poets and musicians in Brixton during the early 1990’s. I was fortunate to spend a lot of time working closely with others at the Brixton Art Gallery, south London. Visual art, poetry and music were raw and unashamedly powerful mediums of expression. As the anniversary of the Brixton riot approaches, one can only acknowledge the significance it played in changing the social and political aspirations of so many African Caribbeans in the UK.
